I couldn’t sleep
J.J. Singleton, NC | Colon Cancer Warrior
My name is JJ Singleton I was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 27. The cancer returned less than 2 months after I finished chemotherapy treatments and found out it had metastasized to the point where it was now incurable. Since then I’ve had 96 chemotherapy treatments and counting, and I have spent 75 days in the hospital.
Since my very first drop of chemo I’ve dealt with Oral Mucositis and mouth Issues. I’ve had sores on my lips, gums, tongue, all the way down my throat. My tongue stays deeply cracked, and I have constant irritation and redness along my gums and throat. I’ve dealt with a mucus covering my tongue due to Mucositis and inflammation. It was so bad that at one point I would wake up choking in the middle of the night.
These issues affect my life daily. I was unable to sleep from the pain and constant irritation inside my mouth. I will continue to deal with these Oral Mucositis issues because I'm on chemo for life. But I will also be on the front line in trying to find ways to educate people about this serious and overlooked side effect, while helping increase awareness of products that actually work and help ease the burden of Oral Mucositis and other cancer treatment side effects.
