I couldn’t eat for weeks
Chelsey Gomez, FL | Hodgkin's Lymphoma
I underwent a stem cell transplant April 2020 for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Unfortunately one of the chemotherapy drugs I was given called Melphalan is notorious for causing oral mucositis. I was given ice to chew on during the infusion, but unfortunately it was not enough to prevent the side effects.
The mucositis made it very difficult for me to eat for several weeks following my transplant. I also have permanent damage to my GI tract due to the mucositis/chemotherapy drug Melphalan. One of the most painful parts of my recovery from my transplant was mucositis. The sores were persistent and painful. There were very few good options to treat the discomfort outside of pain medications that I'd rather avoid. I wish I had known more about products available that could’ve helped.
