I couldn’t eat or talk

When I was going through chemotherapy for breast cancer I developed Oral Mucositis, which you might know by the name of cancer mouth sores. The sores were SO painful. I couldn’t eat, or drink, and sometimes talk.

They affected my quality of life. They were so much more than “just a sore” which is what I got from the doctors despite the complications that can result from this side effect.

I vividly remember it being so hard to eat for our “Taco Tuesday”, which is a staple in our house. My 3 year old would ask me “Mommy, why aren’t you eating? Why can’t you take medicine to make it better?”. How could I feel like myself if I couldn’t even spend Taco Tuesday with my family and feel like a part of it?

Cancer takes so much. Don’t let cancer take from you through side effects that can be managed. Advocate for yourself and find solutions that can help you improve quality of life as you get through cancer treatment.
